SIMON BUCKLEY SECURES CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFICATIONS (31st, May 2011) Home from the Portuguese Sunshine Tour with a string of top placings, international show jumper Simon Buckley is now notching up Championship qualifications for his string of young horses, having recently qualified Wordsworth for the 6yo Championship and Vagabond V for the Masters, both at the SCOPE Festival of Show Jumping later this season. The grey 6yo gelding Wordsworth returned from Portugal having won a 6-year-old competition to jump a triple clear in the Weston Lawns qualifier for the 6yo Championship, which earned him his SCOPE ticket. Jumping a third round at 1.50m in a Foxhunter second round with Vagabond V, a horse he had for only a short time, Simon says, “We didn’t know each other that well, but it was a good result and I’m looking forward to taking him to SCOPE for the Masters.” Simon’s much admired young stallion HFS Valentino returned from Portugal with a string of top placings and is another being aimed at this season’s 6yo Championship. His top string the 12yo Belgian bred Worrior Van Dingeshof claimed a 3rd place in a 2* Grand Prix class in Portugal and will now compete at selected national and international shows. Cumbrian-based Simon is well known for his detailed yard management and chooses Equine Products UK for highly specified nutritional supplements. He explains, “We use supplements routinely, for joint care - FlexiVite HA, digestive health - Transvite Maintenance and maintaining electrolyte balance and hydration levels (Restore-Lyte), with Haemavite B Plus to maintain correct blood levels during the busiest weeks of the season. The horses can only perform well if they are fit, healthy and feel good, which is why nutritional considerations are so important and part of the successful preparation of competition horses at every level.” Caption for accompanying image: Simon Buckley and HFS Valentino.
