MEDIUM REGIONAL WIN ON TEST SADDLE FOR JULIE HYSLOP AND DHI KRACKATOA (22nd, August 2011)
New Grand Prix Special saddle from Sue Carson Saddles launches to immediate acclaim

Riding on a demonstration saddle, tried just once the previous week and only fitted to her horse actually at the British Dressage Regional Championships by Sue Carson, Julie Hyslop was delighted to win the British Dressage Northern Restricted Medium Regional Championship on her 10-year-old Krack C gelding DHI Krackatoa with a score of 67%.

The saddle Julie chose to ride on was the newly launched Grand Prix Special from Sue Carson Saddles, which like its stablemate, the new and highly acclaimed Grand Prix, offers the ultimate in bespoke manufacture for an individual horse and rider.

The unique design allows complete freedom for the horse to ‘move’, but not only is the manufacture absolutely individual to the horse, this saddle offers unrivalled opportunity for the rider to specify a number of features fundamental to both comfort and performance.

These include a custom made block for riders who want even more from their saddle and on the demonstration saddle used by Julie, the blocks were attached by Velcro exactly where she required them on each side, to allow a true feel.

The seat on the Grand Prix Special differs from the Grand Prix and is a little deeper, allowing the seat bones down into the back of the saddle that comes up behind the rider, facilitating maximum effectiveness when engaging and activating the hind legs.

Although riding on the ‘demonstration’ saddle may have looked a little odd, Julie’s success reflected a significant improvement in DHI Krackatoa’s way of going and fully vindicated her unusual decision to change a horse’s saddle actually at a Regional Championship. She says, “Because I’m quite small and he’s quite big, I’ve always struggled a little bit to collect him and sit, but when I look at the photographs taken at the Regionals, even in the demonstration saddle I can sit properly and effectively to his trot and I have never seen his canter look so ‘uphill’.”

The Sue Carson Saddles Grand Prix Special, at £3000, is manufactured in the UK by SMS qualified craftsmen, with unrivalled attention to detail and as you would expect, all the leathers used are of the very highest quality. It is available nationwide from all Sue Carson Saddles Distributors. Contact 01629 540343 or visit www.suecarsonsaddles.co.uk
