INTERNATIONAL SHOW JUMPER BARRY DOVE JOINS TEAM SCS (3rd, March 2011) International show jumper and young horse producer Barry Dove has secured a new sponsorship deal with Sue Carson Saddles that will see his team of horses competing in saddles from the Sue Carson range under the new Team SCS banner. A very successful junior show jumper with Horse of the Year Show appearances on his record, Barry has now established himself as a top producer in the senior ranks following five years as a National Hunt Jockey, during which time he started backing and producing mainly young show jumpers. Based in Meopham, Kent, he has been buying youngstock from Belgium and Holland for several years. A previous winner of the future jumping stallion championship at Zwolle international show in Holland, Barry explains, “I like to produce these horses for the age classes as five, six and seven-year-olds, selling them again at seven or eight to go on to bigger things.” Barry’s current string includes Flashpoint, a 7yo gelding by Darco aimed this season at 1.30m/1.35m classes, the 5yo mare Bertina H owned jointly with Robert Whitaker and a 5yo gelding, Gentle S. “The two 5 year olds are being aimed at the age classes, including those at Hickstead, Addington Young Horse Show and Scope”, confirms Barry, “and also for the World Breeding Championships at Zangersheide in Belgium.” 15yo Mirco, previously successful in YR classes with Barry’s fiance Holly Hensler, will campaign 1.35/1.40m classes with Barry and like the other horses, is being fitted with a Sue Carson saddle. “I tried other saddles on a scopey and careful 5yo before jumping him in a Sue Carson Velocity saddle, under which he jumped completely differently - even better!!! “I like these saddles very much and intend to use either the Velocity or the Leader for every horse. I’ve never used Flair air flocking before but am completely convinced. The Sue Carson Saddles are fitted by my local distributor Ruth Clayfield and she has taken a lot of care to ensure the fit is perfect for each horse. I am very pleased to join Team SCS this season and looking forward to supporting the company’s ongoing product development programme.”
