Manage the effects of heat and hard ground (3rd, June 2011)
International event rider Oliver Townend advises….

Now that the eventing season is at its height and horses are in full work, enjoying a busy competition schedule, correct management is crucial to maintain health, performance and ongoing wellbeing.

For leading international event rider Oliver Townend, now is the time to plan the second half of the season. He explains, “I work backwards from each horse’s main aim or event and will quite possibly run a horse at slightly lower level events in preparation for the main goal to finish the season on a high note.

“Management is crucial and the TRM range is our choice for both nutritional supplements and the leg clay Staysound, which we use after every run, as I feel it keeps the legs cool and tight, especially if they’re running on firm ground.

“When the weather’s hot, we routinely use electrolytes and TRM’s range includes a product for every scenario, which means we can manage the horses individually, which is so important.

“We always plan in a short break for horses after they’ve run at a three day event and once the younger horses have done a handful of events, assuming we’re happy with their progression, they’ll get a short break too.”

TRM’s UK distributor Farm & Stable Supplies is running a number of tremendous value deals on the range during July and August, focusing on joint care, electrolytes and leg clay. To find out more, contact freephone 0800 804 8441 or to buy online, visit www.trm-store.co.uk
